It is a wonderful and refreshing thing to see when local students pay tribute to the military in our region on Veterans Day. Last year I had the honor of broadcasting an event presented by the students and faculty of Groveton ISD (check out some of the photos below). This year, I am going back.
Wednesday, November 10, The Groveton Independent School District will provide a free drive-through lunch to any Veteran and their spouse or serving military personnel. This will take place on the GISD bus line from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is open to any veteran or military in the area, it is not limited to those with ties to Groveton students and faculty.
In past years, customers were invited to enter the cafeteria to enjoy their delicious meal, however, given the schedules and the attention paid to security protocols, the means will be served in drive-mode. in. The latest forecast shows a slight chance of showers later today on Wednesday, so it looks like the weather should cooperate with this year’s event.
Groveton ISD chooses to hold its event near Veterans Day, but never on the day it is observed, as many Veterans have Veterans Day obligations and are unable to attend. According to Jim Dillard, administrator of Groveton ISD, one of the best things about this day is that their students really made the event their own. Students have the opportunity to write and create works of art to express their patriotism, which are presented during the event. All food is prepared by Groveton ISD employees and culinary arts students. Both at school and in the community are proud of what these students are doing to make this day possible.
Thanks again Groveton for doing this for our veterans, we’ll see you there with KICKS 105.
