A man wielding a hammer “grabbed” a staff member in a cafe during an unsuccessful robbery attempt.

At around 7:30 a.m. this morning (October 17), a man approached Starbucks on Edge Lane and attacked the drive-thru window with a hammer before entering the locked store.

The man grabbed staff members and threatened to open the safe before fleeing the store empty-handed, leaving the staff “shaken”.

The man is believed to have crossed Edge Lane towards Wavertree Park.

Merseyside Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to as part of the investigation.

Detective Inspector Chris Hawitt said: “Fortunately, no staff were seriously injured in this incident, but they were very shaken by their ordeal.

“I would call on anyone who was in the Edge Lane area this morning and saw or heard something suspicious, or thought they had captured something on a dash cam or cell phone to contact us. .

“I would also ask anyone who recognizes the man in the photo to contact me as we believe he has vital information for our investigation.

“No one should be treated so shockingly when they are just going about their daily business in the workplace and we are determined to find the man responsible and bring him to justice.
