The Pennsylvania Resources Council is kicking off its 2022 Household Chemicals Drive-Up Campaign by hosting a drive-in event at PPG Paints Arena to provide Pennsylvania residents with the opportunity to safely dispose of household cleaners, automotive fluids, paints, pesticides and other products containing potentially hazardous components.

This first PRC household chemical drive of 2022 will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at the surface parking lots of PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

“Diverting household chemicals from landfills is important because many of them contain toxic elements that can leach into our waterways or introduce hazardous toxic materials into our environment,” according to the PRC Executive Director, Darren Spielman. “This year marks the 20th season of hosting PRC household chemical collection events, and we are proud to announce that we have facilitated the safe management of six million pounds of household chemicals collected during more than a hundred events.”

At the April 16 event, a $20 fee will cover the cost of disposing of up to 10 gallons/50 pounds of aerosols, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, e-cigarettes, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides. /garden chemicals, photo chemicals and swimming pool chemicals.

Loads over 10 gallons/50 pounds will be subject to additional charges at the discretion of on-site staff.

PRC advises that when preparing for this drive-in event, attendees should pack all materials into their car trunks or truck beds and then remain in their vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials. The certified contractor will handle hazardous waste for proper disposal, and materials can be recycled, incinerated, or safely buried in special landfills.
