HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – As part of their commitment to keeping the community safe, staff at Sentara RMH Medical Center will host a free flu vaccination clinic this Saturday, October 2, according to a press release.

This year, as part of Sentara Healthcare’s efforts to increase community access to free preventative care, there will be 17 drive-thru flu clinics in Virginia and North Carolina.

Staff will administer 300 flu shots at the Sentara RMH campus and over 7,500 flu shots in one day at all sites. The driving flu clinic will run from 8 a.m. to noon, or until all shots are in. No appointment is necessary.

Flu shots will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last, Sentara RMH officials said. Anyone 18 and over can get a free flu shot without leaving their car. The event is rain or shine, and COVID-19 security protocols will be followed at all times.

A mask is mandatory to get the flu shot. Only the standard influenza vaccine will be offered. Sentara officials say getting a flu shot is crucial amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sentara RMH recommends getting your flu shot early in the year, ideally in October. Flu symptoms are very similar to COVID-19, and preventing the flu will save lives and conserve healthcare resources.

Only the flu shot will be available at Sentara’s drive-thru flu vaccination clinics. However, Sentara encourages community members in need of a COVID-19 vaccine to visit www.vaccinefinder.org.
